50 Shades of Bullshit
The Modern Liberal's Torrid Sado-Masochistic Relationship with Lies
Niccolo Machiavelli once postulated (paraphrased) that politics could not be conducted without The Lie. That while force was not always necessary to the business of politics, one could not truly practice the art with any great skill or subtlety without a healthy dose of fraud. Machiavelli justified -- or at least rationalized -- the Lie as an unavoidable accessory to power, for in order to exercise it over the Masses it is often necessary to make use of them -- their desires, fears, aspirations, hatreds, opinions -- and if the Masses were ever to discover that they were being used in this fashion, they would revolt.
The Lie is necessary; it serves to hide one's true motives from the people over whom one wields power. Machiavelli understood that achieving power means lying and justified it, perversely, as a matter of honesty. The Ruler who was honest about his intentions (always to himself) could conduct public affairs in a much more straightforward, more efficient manner. For his ultimate goal is not, strictly-speaking, always the most good for the most people, but rather to continue in power, for no one accepts or takes power with the intention of voluntarily giving it up.
This is the genesis of the old saying that "The Ends Justify The Means".

New Obama Anti-Romney Ads To Look Out For...
"Mitt Romney killed my kittens!", exclaims little Mary Ellen Dumbrovski (left), of Chillicothe, Ohio, adding "he's a big, dumb, meanie snothead, too!"
Mary Ellen's story is not uncommon here in Chillicothe. You see, this is how Bain Capital destroyed a middle American town in the name of greed, and in the process, broke a little girl's heart.
You see, the Dumbrovski ancestral family home, a double-wide trailer provided by FEMA when the Dumbrovski's escaped the carnage of the evil George W. Bush's destruction of New Orleans by a Pentagon-generated Hurricane Katrina, sat on land that Mitt Romney's Bain capital had bribed the then-controlled-by-republicans State Legislature to acquire in order to build the brand new, state-of-the-art Chillicothe International Airport, Golf Resort and European Day Spa, all of which are only open to the Richest One Percent in America.
No sooner had Mary Ellen's family been evicted and relocated to one of the Bain-Capital-run tent camps/soup kitchens located in various, undisclosed locations, where prisoners were fed infrequently on government-surplus cheese, filthy non-EPA-approved water and refused subsidized birth control, than the bulldozers overran the once-pristine trailer park near the interstate and Carter-Era toxic waste dump, and crushed Mary Ellen's two kittens (Trixie and Dixie), who, because of GOP-backed budget cuts lacked state-funded medical insurance to treat their chronic leprosy, and therefore, were unable to get out of the way of the steamrollers with 'Bain Capital' emblazoned on their sides in gaudy neon lettering. Trixie and Dixie are now a permanent feature of runway Three-Niner West.

The Sorry Tale of Anthony Weiner…
The most aptly-named man in Washington, D.C. finally admitted to what the even the dumbest amongst us already knew, yesterday, and made a crying spectacle of himself on national television. Anthony Weiner did, indeed, shoot little beefcake photos of himself all over the internet to various women (he says six, but that’s probably no closer to the truth than his insistence that he was ‘hacked’ by right-wing hit squads was). He also admits to some telephonic heavy breathing, which is a vision that has firmly burnt itself into my mind's eye, much to my distress.
The entire apology/self-crucifixion production became surreal when Andrew Breitbart , the man accused of being Weiner’s ersatz hacker just happened to be in the neighborhood, and at the behest of the drooling press took over the event, demanding an apology while informing us that he has even more pictures of Weiner in even more compromising positions. This suggestion makes me fervently hope that my infected mind’s eye will do me a great favor and go blind before those are ever released.
There’s much talk amongst the flapping rectum class on television about Weiner’s ‘political future’. Only in America, and most annoyingly, only in New York, could a Congressman so obviously mislead the public, dissemble so unbelievably brazenly about the facts of his misdeeds, make a public penance in which he has to follow the man who’s been wrongly accused of wronging him, still consider it possible to have a career. Only in New York could such a man, who has a Congressional Ethics hearing or two in his future, probably an irate wife who can’t wait to rape him in the divorce trial (if she doesn’t divorce him after this, even if there’s no actual sex involved, she’s a retard), be considered worthy of having a Political Future.
Sadly, Congressdouche Weiner stands a better than even-money chance of being re-elected as things are now, barring some new revelation that one of his phone/e-mail playmates was underage, or a foreign spy. If it should turn out that one of Weiner’s phone friends was another man, the people of his district – where IQ is measured by that quaint expression ‘room temperature’; after all, they’ve already voted for the most insufferable asshole I’ve ever seen in my entire life six times, so they must be the cream of the crop, stupid-wise – even that wouldn’t stop them from voting for Congressman Chronic Online Masturbator.
Some would see it as an opportunity to vote for the first apparently bi-sexual member of Congress (so far as we know). That’s how liberal they are; voting for Weiner is a badge of courage.
Besides, here in New York we’ve come to expect that out elected officials are criminals, serial adulterers, or sexual deviants, vis-à-vis Rudy Giuliani, Eliot Spitzer, David Paterson, Eric Massa, Chris Lee, and now Anthony Weiner.
Hell, Charlie Rangel never met a tax he didn't write the regs for that he wouldn’t happily dodge, and he’s still in office.
I watched this sorry spectacle yesterday, and wanted to puke. The first vomit-inducing portion was the part where Weiner said “I will not resign”, which I thought was absolutely outrageous. Just a few weeks ago, a New York Republican (Chris Lee) resigned from office after being caught doing the same exact thing that Weiner has done, and there was no week-and-a-half of lying involved, there were no false accusations against a journalist, there wasn’t a ten day ordeal of press conferences where we’re arguing over the meaning of ‘certitude’, and the man in the crosshairs flounders in lawyerly language like Shelley Winters floundered in the flooded ballroom of the Poseidon Adventure.
The second thing that made me want to expel my lunch at terminal velocity was the use of the word ‘apology’. Weiner said ‘apologize’ or ‘I apologize’ what seemed to me to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 times. He apologized to his wife, his family, his staff, his ’constituents’ (i.e. the brain-dead legion that would have pulled the lever for him so as to keep the hot-and-cold running food stamps and Section-8 housing flowing, unless he’d admitted to child rape or tossing puppies into a wood chipper), Andrew Breitbart, but at no time did it ever appear to me to be sincere. Perhaps that’s because I have an instinctual dislike for Weiner that rivals the hatred between cats and dogs, or maybe it’s a by-product from having to listen to him lie out of both sides of his mouth, and his rectum, simultaneously, on ever subject under the Sun for a decade-plus.
Weiner claims to take ‘responsibility’ – another word he used profusely and unbelievably -- for what he’s done, but he truly hasn’t. Had Weiner a responsible bone(r) in his body, he would have resigned yesterday. That’s what responsible, truly sorry people do. Then again, he’s a democrat, so there you go; democrats are neither responsible, nor hardly ever sorry about anything.
Anthony Weiner didn’t ‘apologize’ profusely yesterday because he’s genuinely sorry. He’s apologizing and paying lip-service to accepting responsibility because he’s been caught. He’s apologizing because he got caught in such a stupid way, doing such a stupid thing. He’s apologizing because it’s part of a ’damage control’ operation, and the public relations experts told him that it’s time to come clean and at least appear to be contrite (note, however, that Weiner only ‘comes clean’ after irrefutable evidence is suggested of his guilt. Without it, he would have continued this charade for years to come). That series of apologies you saw yesterday was not of a penitent man, baring his soul to the world, begging forgiveness.
That was a man who’s come home drunk at three in the morning, smelling of perfume, lipstick smeared on his collar, and the used condom still stuck in his zipper, begging his wife to unlock the door, pleading ‘Honey, can't we talk this over?’.
Men, as a rule, do things because they can, or because they want to. Scale Everest, split atoms, fly to the Moon, or fuck the secretary with the big tits, and many of them never actually stop to consider the implications or consequences of their actions, especially where the sex drive and ego are concerned. We are biologically hard-wired to take risks, to ignore doubts and fears, and screw everything that moves. Nature made us this way, and it’s only a very smart or dedicated man who is able to control his baser urges.
When you look like Anthony Weiner, the very poster child for birth control, and have the arrogance that comes with power and the fawning adulation of the press – perhaps the laziest and dumbest class of people yet discovered -- that intelligence and dedication quickly flies right out the window. Add the possibility of sex to ego and poor impulse control, and you’re headed for disaster. Facilitate the roller-coaster-to-Hell with a medium that provides (some think) a measure of anonymity and distance, and you’re talking a sure-fire atomic explosion of stupidity.
Weiner’s first mistake was to get full of himself. His second mistake was to fail to engage his critical thinking skills (being a liberal democrat, we may question as to whether he possesses any). His third mistake was to choose mediums where the possibility of getting caught was somewhat remote (although, as we all know, nothing is private in Cyberspace, and even phone bills can be quite instructive). His fourth mistake was to make a habit of it. The final mistake was to believe that he could scrub the record clean, after the fact, brazenly lie about the entire…ahem…affair…and then, after the dust settles, continue life much as he did before, maybe taking a few extra precautions but not much more.
I can promise you: even after being put in a delicate, to say the least, position by the initial discovery of Weiner’s underpants pictures, Weiner would have gone right back to Greasing the Pelican and sending dick pictures online just as soon as decently possible. It’s a compulsion; a mere routine, it all becomes a part of Life, just like the morning commute, the tuna-salad-on-whole-wheat for lunch everyday, the three-martinis after work, the evening newscast, and brushing your teeth before bed.
No, Anthony Weiner was never sorry enough to realize just what he was doing and then stop doing it; he’s only sorry that we found out what he does with his Blackberry, and the thought that the public might believe he’s Yankin’ his Crank While Texting finally got that long-forgotten-and-suppressed shame reflex to kick in.
So, what’s next for Congresscritter Weiner? Well, to judge from past sex scandals (this may be the first where no actual sex, only the suggestion of it, took place. See how the Internet and social networking are changing our lives? When a politician says “I did not have sex with that woman…” and a computer is involved, you can actually half-way believe him! Weiner might give a whole new meaning to the term ‘Palm Pilot’.), the step after admission is usually, and oh-so-painfully-predictably rehab.
Congressman Weiner may be the first famous (or is it now infamous?) Internet Sex Addict. When Weiner makes that announcement -- I'm a sex addict -- his wife will be standing right next to him (somehow, the wives must always be seen as standing by their man, even when their man is a complete douchebag. Although her absence yesterday was telling); there will be the usual rigmarole about personal reflection, ‘my Faith in God’, and ‘coming to terms with the realization that I have a problem’, but dickhead still won’t resign, naturally.
There is a Congressional Ethics Committee investigation coming. Considering that democrats usually don’t find anything wrong with deviant behavior by one of their members, it’s merely a formality. It’s a kabuki play intended to lull the public into the false belief that, indeed, Congress can be trusted to police itself, which is complete and utter bullshit given the history of Congressional Ethics Investigations of the last 40 years. Weiner will receive but a light tap upon both wrists and told to sin no more. If they’re smart, they’ll take his Blackberry and Smartphone away, and cancel his subscription to AOL (people still have those?).
Despite all the public mea culpa, despite the coming-soon orgy of putting all his psychoses on public display, despite all the talk about ‘responsibility’, deep down in what passes for his black soul Anthony Weiner still thinks he’s done nothing wrong. He still believes he’s a victim…of something…but not of hubris or stupidity. Somewhere in his tiny little mind, he still feels justified in what he has done, and can’t believe people would make such a big deal out of such a little thing (I mean the scandal, not his Little Thing, per se). He’s wrong.
We’re the victims here. A sitting Congresscritter making a casual mistake with his send options on Twitter has just told everyone in the Solar System that he’s dumber than dogshit, and ripe for blackmail. He’s just told the American public that far from his usual insistence that he’s ‘fighting for the common folk’ he’s instead spending a great deal of time taking pictures of himself in the buff, e-mailing them hither-and-yon, hitting up women half his age. His subsequent actions – trying to delete the incriminating photographs, inventing a weak conspiracy theory cover story out of whole cloth, accusing an innocent man of potential criminality, stonewalling, misleading the public and press, lying to his wife, and the Staff or other members of Congress who may have defended him – show the character, or rather, lack thereof, of the man. If he’s capable of lying about this, what else has Anthony Weiner lied about? If he’s capable of going to these extreme lengths to avoid having the truth come out, what does that say about the benefits or veracity of anything he’s ever voted on?
And finally, his Twitter Bunnies are going to be exposed to public scrutiny. Two already have. I wonder if either will make an attempt to find Monica Lewinski and ask her how her career and life have gone after she was identified as the paramour of a once-powerful man. Everywhere she goes, men probably ask her to do her famous ‘Cigar Trick’, and automatically assume she’s up for a little ‘Executive Action’ at a moment’s notice. Monica had at least one saving grace in her favor: the Internet was in its infancy, and public memory is often short. For these women, once they’re publicly identified, Weiner’s Weiner will be permanently stapled to every job application they ever fill in.
They might as well have actually done the deed for real, because for all intents and purposes Anthony Weiner has shackled each with a permanent, electronic, Pearl Necklace.
And the Happiest Man in the World Today is Arnold Schwarzenegger, because Anthony Weiner just took the spotlight off of him, at least for the foreseeable future.
No Shit, Sherlock Department: People in Power Make Better Liars, Study Shows...
I'm so glad someone spent money (probably taxpayer money) on this study that indicates that those who have achieved power are not affected in the same psychological manner as us peons when they deign to be untruthful.
Whereas "non-liars" feel pangs of guilt, which lead to subtle clues about their subterfuge, powerful people actually feel validated when they lie. As I read this, there's a sort of "Liar's High", not to mention a sense of arrogant entitlement involved, and as time goes on, they can't seem to break the habit.
I'm certain that if these researchers gave the same test to Congress, 99% of the members would fail.
Now, what's really interesting about this study is what's NOT written in it. I took the opportunity to look up some biographical details about the people mentioned in it, and you know what I found? The majority of the people mentioned by name in that article are all associated with the Ivy League!
David Paterson, Governor of New York is a graduate of Columbia University.
Jeffrey Skilling, former Enron President and convicted felon, is a graduate of Harvard Business School.
Mary C. Gentile, author and secondary source for this story, once taught at Harvard Business School.
The Study itself was done at Columbia University by "researchers" who research at Columbia!
Why, it's almost a scandal! They want to explain the abuse of power and the psychology of lying by the powerful, but seem to have neglected a common thread between the infamous liars mentioned, the secondary sources the reporter used, and the people who did the study: they all have an Ivy League background!
I'd be more likely to draw the conclusion that if you went to an Ivy League school you're more likely to become an expert liar, more than I would buy the theory that it becomes easier to lie with the accumulation of power. It seems as if the theory is simply trying to find a psychological basis for excusing bad behavior -- after the fact -- that is probably acquired with the air of privilege and (false) sense of superiority that comes with an Ivy League education. That feeling of superiority is probably part-and-parcel of the urge to lie, and vital to the ability to pull it off.
The Ivy League churns out liars like crack whores churn out AIDS babies. It's just that now, when we look upon the blasted heath that was once America, and see that it was laid low by our Ivy Leaguers on Wall Street, Government, Media and Academia, the Ivy League must cover up it's complicity in the crimes committed -- so it produces a study that basically implies that the Ivy Leaguers now known to be liars were psychologically predisposed to be dissemblers, and that it was a vital component of their "success". It's supposed to appear as if the Liars didn't acquire that talent at Harvard, nor were they encouraged to be anything other than upstanding moral citizens at Columbia or Princeton. In fact, attending those schools, the "researchers" seem to be saying, didn't help the Liars sharpen their talents one little bit -- what with all the Secret Societies, the Old Boy Networks, Gentleman's C's, and Marked Class Distinctions, insane Political Correctness and Affirmative Action codes, and so forth -- directly or not.
Yeah, riiiiight.
Update: I rest my case: The Latest Harvard Plagarist. Not to be confused with all the Old Harvard Plagarists.

Why Is Al Gore Still Alive?
And why does anyone bother asking him questions? Expecting intelligent answers from Al Gore is like expecting your dog to reveal the secrets of nuclear fusion. Then again, your dog probably understands more about Nature than Al Gore does...
But, I guess because he got an Oscar, is front-and-center in the scam that is Global Warming, and is the stout (very stout -- is it me or is Al getting fatter?) defender of Polar Bears, people feel compelled to ask him things he either couldn't possibly know the answer to (being an idiot), or will lie through his teeth about (because it's a life-long habit he's made a good living at).
Al Gore stonewalling on questions about Climategate.
Al's claim to have read the memos is belied by the repeated contention that these things are 10 years old. If he had read them, he'd know that isn't true. Or, being Al Gore and having no economic interest in the truth, I wonder if that really matters? That's the new mantra, I guess. Expect to hear this at least once a day...until they become 11 years old. Actually, many of them aren't 10 years old (having 2009 date stamps), and Al was caught lying once more.
But then again, this is the guy who invented the Internet and tried to sue his way into the White House,so what do you expect?
Al Gore, in a perfect world, would be in a prison cell right now instead of living the high-life in mansions, private jets and ostensibly-solar-powered houseboats, because he's a con man. His greatest crime has been to take advantage of million of people even dumber than he, and get rich while doing it...all the while damning the greedy capitalists who got rich on actual, legal commerce -- and who spend a significant portion of their profits actually complying with environmental law, instead of trading made-up, worthless 'carbon credits' and being an insufferable asshole about it -- but he can freely and hypocritically harangue them as evil polluters who are destroying the planet.
I Pity Tipper.

True Text of President Obama's "Speech On Healthcare"...
Here's how I heard the President's address last night:
Blah blah blah blah blah. Blah, blah blah blah, healthcare, blah blah blahbitty blah. Republicans are the devil blabbity blah blah, blah blah blah blah I am God, blah. Blah blah blah (pause for polite applause) blah blah blah blah, blah. Illegal immigrants will get better benefits than American citizens for free, blah blah blah, blah blah. Blah, Death Panels by another name blah blah, blah blah blabbity blabbity blah-blah. Blah blah blah Tax Everyone Within an Inch of Their Lives blah blah blah blah, blah blah! Blah blah blah, blah, blah I'm a Con Artist Who Tricked Y'all Into Voting for Me, blah blah blah balbbity-blabbity-boopity-boppity blah blah. Blah blah blah This is a Centerpiece of My Reparations-By-Another-Name-Master-Plan blah blah blabbity-blabbity-beebop-bejesus blah.
Blah blah blah (serious expression) blah blah blabbity blah, blah blah. Blah, blah blah blah? Don't You Wish You Voted for Hillary Instead? Blah blah blah blah blah blah....
I can now sleep soundly; the dreaded Obama beast has finally been slain, and the beauty of it all is that it has been killed by it's own words, it's own actions, and it's own messenger. The Won has bitten off far more than he can chew, and his ignorance and lack of touch with reality show ever more with each passing day. We can look forward to three years of lame-duckery and a republican Congress in 2010, provided republicans don't do something stupid -- like vote for anything this President ever proposes short of his own hanging.

Just Say NO!
Re: the Obama Band-Aids-and-Eyedrops-for-Everyone "plan". I use the convention "The Plan", because according to whom you speak to, there is one (any one of seventeen or so Congressional proposals), or there isn't (none of these Congressional proposals has been debated or voted upon...yet), or, "The Plan" is not truly the President's, but rather belongs to Congress (ownership of "The Plan" changes between the Executive and Legislative branches, depending upon how beneficial/toxic/utilitarian claim of ownership is at any given instant).
Bottom line: this is not a health care "Plan". It will not provide "insurance" (as we understand the term today) to anyone, since for the majority of people it will claim to cover it will be "free" (i.e. paid for by other people, the so-called "Rich). Those who receive this "insurance" will then have to just deal with the destruction of their personal liberties as the government which now keeps them alive exercises it's "right" to then interfere with every personal decision they make, from whether or not to have that extra doughnut, to whether or not they go hang-gliding.
Once you give the government the responsibility for your health, you have given them the means by which they will direct your life.
As for these Town hall Meetings on the subject, there are two things which are painfully obvious:
a) Our elected class is clueless. They have lost touch with the very people they're supposed to be representing. The sense of entitlement and the arrogance they all seem to display is thick enough to cut with a chainsaw. I predict at least half of these mediocrities will be shown the door in 2010 (the other half were elected by people too stupid to know any better).
b) People are pissed off. And this time, it has very little to do with politics, per se: the people are beginning to wise up to point a. It's not about democrat and republican, it's about finally becoming aware of what these assholes are doing while we aren't watching. The recent fertilization of both speed and massive price tags exhibited by this combination of Congress and President is simply frightening.
Update: Now The Administration is now in full-scale-sale mode. Before, they were selling health care as a 'right' that a decent society owed to all of it's citizens. Since that was laughable on it's face (most of the people who would be covered under Obamacare were either illegal immigrants or people who could afford their own insurance, but are too cheap to pony up), they have resorted to the tried-and-true class warfare mantra: now the "Public Option" is necessary in order to artificially lower the price of actual insurance to create competition, so that The Disadvantaged can play on a level field with The Rich.
I would laugh if it weren't so stupid.
Update-Update: From the Chicago Tribune:
"In his news conference, Obama was asked if Americans would "have to give up anything in order for this [reform] to happen?" His answer: Basically, not much: "They’re going to have to give up paying for things that don’t make them healthier."
Huh?
From Bloomberg (April 29), via Mickey Kaus:
"April 29 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama said his grandmother’s hip-replacement surgery during the final weeks of her life made him wonder whether expensive procedures for the terminally ill reflect a "sustainable model" for health care."
And they say they'll be no Death Squads?

Trust...and Stuff...
RE: Barack Obama and promises. He has a hard time keeping them, it seems. He promises the gays he would wave his wand (his rhetorical one, not an actual one. Only fairies have magic wands, you know) and the Defense of Marriage Act would be gone, as would the military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy.
He promised he would not raise taxes on anyone 'making under $250,000 a year', which was so much hot air. Income taxes might not rise, but every other conceivable tax and fee will under Obama, because otherwise he can't pay for free medical insurance and college scholarships for illegal aliens, and all of his scheme for 'reparations by another name' for the Black Comm-unnn-itaayy.
That's just to begin the list of broken promises (thankfully, I'm happy he hasn't kept some of them); all the promises about ending involvement in wars? Nope. Closing Gitmo? Nope. Repairing the old alliances? Nope? 'Fixing' Health Care? Nope, more likely to break it forever.
Keeping unemployment at 8%? Laugher! "Save or create six million jobs? Only in his dreams.
Barack Obama reminds me of an old joke/proverb we used to tell around here:
See, there was this man who discovered that his house was infested with termites. So, he picked up the Yellow Pages and called the first exterminator listed there. The Exterminator arrives, gives the man's house a once over and offered him the following advice;
"If you spend one hour a day shouting at the termites at the top of your lungs, they'll go away in a week."
The Man, of course, is skeptical, but the Exterminator assures him "Trust me, I'm a professional. Here's my bill."
So,the man shouts at termites for a week. His front porch collapsed. So, he calls The Exterminator again.
The Exterminator is shocked, shocked, that screaming didn't work. So, he gets The Man's garden hose, and starts spraying the house down. He spends hours watering the house, whistling the entire time. When he's done, he assures The Man "That ought to take care of them. It'll take a week for the house to dry out, but you should not see a termite after that. I've drowned them all. Here's my bill."
A week later, a section of the roof collapses. So, The Man calls The Exterminator a third time.
The Exterminator is amazed, just absolutely flabbergasted that both shouting and watering the house have not solved the termite problem. But, he tells The Man, he has one more trick up his sleeve; The Exterminator goes to his truck, and returns with a 5-gallon can of gasoline. He begins to liberally douse The Man's front porch with gasoline, and then throws a lit match.
The House burns down. The Exterminator presents his bill.
Now, The Man is irate: "You burned my house down, you bastard!"
"Yes, I did", says The Exterminator, "but your termite problem is fixed!"
That's Barack Obama in a nutshell; He'll say anything, do anything, no matter how stupid or apparently pointless. He offers ineffective remedies for our 'problems', dissembles when they don't, can't or won't work, blaming straw men (his infamous 'some say...', 'there are those who...' speeches) for being 'selfish', 'stubborn' and 'un-American' for daring to act in their own self-interest as the 'root cause' of the failure of his policies to produce Cotton Candy and Rainbow Ponies for All... and then he sticks us with the bill.
The Chicago Street Hustler at the top of his game, he'll constantly remind you that what advocates will surely work if you just trust him (i.e. surrender your sanity and wallet). After all, he's a professional.
I'm sure that somewhere in the White House, there's a 5-gallon can of Gasoline and a box of kitchen matches.

Reason # 2,435 why Your President is an Asshole...Double-talk.
Because you can't believe a thing he says. Yeah, I know a novel idea for a politcian, right?
One day, we're facing the worst 'Crisis since the Great Depression' (truth: worst crisis since Jimmy Carter's presidency), now we're told "it's not really as bad as we said it was". See it here, (h/t to Breitbart.com) and laugh your ass off.
Money Quote: "I don't think things are ever as good as they say, or ever as bad as they say," Obama added. "Things two years ago were not as good as we thought because there were a lot of underlying weaknesses in the economy. They're not as bad as we think they are now."
"And my long-term projections are highly optimistic, if we take care of some of these long-term structural problems."
Update: Did the Associated Press airbrush this quote? Because I saw the videotape on TV yesterday and I can swear that Obamanoid said "I don't think things are ever as good/bad as WE say they are..." Of course, if Obama used the Imperial WE it would me "Rahm Emmanuel and I" and that would be an indictment of his behavior in office, wouldn't it? Can't have the AP accurately quote the president, right? That would be, like, wrong an' stuff.
Update-Update: Apparently AP may not have airbrushed the quote, as Obama said "they" first and "we" second, so that the quote was "I don't think things are ever as good as they say they are, and never as bad as we say they are" or words to that effect. Still, even that is an interesting quote: who was the they who said they were good? Was it republicans (before the bottom fell out)? And who is we ? Am I just being paranoid, or is this Clinton-redux thing kicking in and I'm beginning to parse everything The One says?
