Ten Years Later: Some of You Still Don't Get It...

Yesterday’s e-mail brought a rather silly request from a group which calls itself Unity Productions Foundation in which I have been asked to provide a link here at the Asylum to some stupid video about the trials and tribulations of (presumably) peaceful Muslims who are only trying to build mosques and go about their daily lives in peace, but find themselves discriminated against and unfairly singled out by the government for being 'different'.

I'm reluctant to provide the link; I’ve been asked to do so solely because I might serve to bump up the views and page stats at Unity Productions (which is rather lame -- would they do the same for me? I doubt it) and also because I do not agree with the point of view of the sappy little Leftards there who are implying that the suspicion and anger generated by Islamic terrorism is somehow unwarranted, and that innocent people are being discriminated against.

To which I say: bullshit. However, in the interests of fairness, it's there (see below). View it if you wish.

And by the way, when it comes to Muslims building mosques here in New York City, they seem to have a penchant for being both quite selective about where they build them, and quite obnoxious about it, too. The Ground Zero Mosque kerfuffle is well-known; building a mosque at that site is more or less allowing Islamic douchebags to build a victory monument. Less well-known are the several attempts to build mosques here on my own Staten Island, in which the Muslims have insisted on purchasing property which belongs to other faiths, despite the fact that there’s empty real estate laying all over the place. The original plan to build a new mosque in a former Catholic school/Convent was defeated by community pressure, but the Muslims simply moved up the road and bought property which once belonged to a Hindu temple.

If they could have bought a former synagogue there would have been celebrations in the streets, I'm certain.

If you’ve ever read any history, you’ll soon discover that Muslims have a nasty habit of building their mosques on the holy ground of their defeated enemies; the Hagia Sofia, the Dome of the Rock, the Alhambra. You can look it up. The idea is to not only declare the victory and glory of Allah, but to also signal to the defeated that their culture has been destroyed, too. It's as 'in your face' as it's possible to get.

This tends to piss people off, you know.

Anyways, back to the strange idea that America is the new Nazi Germany where Muslims are being harassed for simply going to pray. I rather doubt it.

I got this letter from Unity Productions, under the Heading of “Human Rights for Everyone”:

 Hi Matthew

America was built on the principles of equality and basic human rights for all. Recent mosque protests and congressional hearings on American Muslims are all unfortunate examples of a rising tide of fear that lead to intolerance and inequality. This climate of suspicion towards our fellow Americans compromises the great values that our country was founded upon. We've put together a 2 minute film in response that I believe you and the readers of The Lunatic's Asylum will be interested in sharing, watching, and discussing:

 http://myfellowamerican.us

It would be great if you could post or tweet about this video. The site also has many other cool features including the ability to share your own stories and you can even take the "My Fellow American" pledge. If you are able to help, please let me know - I'd love to share your post or tweet with my team. I am here if you have any questions. Thank you so much.

To which I replied:

Dear Elizabeth,

While I can appreciate your point of view, you do realize that there are specific reasons why Muslims are given this level of scrutiny, and indeed, engender this sort of paranoia?

After all, it wasn't Hindus who rammed hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Buddhists are not currently lobbing unguided rockets and mortar shells into Israeli residential neighborhoods while simultaneously calling for genocide as a precursor to 'Peace'.

Shintos aren't walking into crowded marketplaces, explosives strapped to their bodies, to detonate amidst scores or hundreds of innocents, shouting 'Allahu Akbar!" just before the boom.

You will not find Presbyterians throwing acid in little girls' faces because they want to go to school, or mutilating their daughter's clitorises against their will.

I'm certain there aren't many Catholics out there kidnapping journalists and then beheading them on the Internet.

I rather doubt Lutherans are going about planting IED's, which kill and maim indiscriminately.

You do realize that the probability that most car bombs are being driven by Jedi Knights and Druids is so ridiculously low as to preclude serious consideration?

Oh, and by the way, I can promise you that at right this very moment that few -- probably ZERO -- Muslims anywhere on Planet Earth are currently involved in a project intended to present Christians and Jews in a better light, or to argue for their rights to worship peacefully and as they please within a Muslim country. One could probably count upon one hand the number of Muslims who believe that Christians and Jews currently living inside Muslim Nations have any Human Rights whatsoever, if, indeed, they're to be considered human at all.

I applaud your commitment to Human Rights, Elizabeth. It's unfortunate that you have chosen to defend a group of people who can't appreciate it, who have truly earned the approbation and suspicion they engender, who would never return the favor, and who would slit your throat for being an infidel, and worse, a female infidel, who has the temerity to speak out in public in their defense.

They would not do the same for you, I promise.

Regards,

Matthew

P.S. I survived the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The experience has ruined my life. Fuck Muslims.

Ten years after September 11th, and some of you out there still haven’t gotten it. Instead of defending YOUR country and YOUR culture from destruction from without, people like Elizabeth would rather aid and abet an enemy which is determined to destroy it from within, and do so under the mistaken impression that they are defending freedom.

I can see how one could arrive at that mindset. However, I would remind someone who thinks this way that a) the Constitution was never intended to be a suicide pact, and b) Common Sense must reign sometimes, even if doing so runs contrary to Constitutional principles. So far as I’m concerned, until American Muslims are routinely turning in their crazy uncles, sons and Imams before they explode, I will continue to view them as an enemy inside the gates, every last one a potential danger to home, hearth and culture, and they deserve all the scrutiny they get.

To Elizabeth, and all the people like her, I say this: you have already surrendered. Enjoy your dhimmitude.
